G19 or G26?

Looking to pick up my 2nd Glock. Already have a Gen3 30SF which I love. Was looking into 9mm options. Narrowed it down to the 19 or the 26. Anyone have any input into which one would be a better option? I'm semi new to gun ownership so anything you can offer up would be greatly appreciated. Will have my carry permit in a few days and was planning on using the 30, but I've read the 19 and 26 are viable carry options as well. Thanks for the help!

Better options for what, specifically?

I own both. Usually carry the 26, and love it. Got the 19 recently, and love it. Going to try carrying it now that my holster is in.

Both guns shoot sweetly and comfortably. My 19 is in FDE, and I've fallen in love with that color. The 26 fits my medium-sized hands very well, with a mag extension.

The only thing I can complain about regarding the 19 is that the trigger guard rubs on my finger a little bit...might have to get it cut down some. Never had that issue with the 26.

The 26 is easily concealable, but I think the 19 will be too.

It's usually suggested to go to a range and rent both guns to shoot a few rounds through. I support that idea, because you'll never know how you feel about a gun until you shoot it.

I have the counterparts, the 23 and 27. While the 23 carries nicely, I definitely prefer the 27 because it is smaller and lighter. The 27 doesn't carry as many rounds as the 23, but for its size, it carries an impressive amount. So, in your case, I would prefer the 26 over the 19 for carry.

I own both, and others, and the G19 is the best Glock model IMO. It is very close in size to the G30.

That said, I carry my G26 more. Just works better for me.

Your call. Both are great guns

I have both and tend to carry the 19 more. It actually feels better IWB to me than the 26. The 26 has so little of it under the belt that it doesn't feel as balanced when I'm walking around. I save the 26 mostly for pocket carry walking the dog, but the 19 goes everywhere else.

Thanks all. I've read a lot of people think the G19 is one of the better overall Glock models. Just wanted some thoughts from people who actually owned one or the other, or maybe even had both. I will definitely check them both out before I make a final choice. Glock ownership seems like it could become very addicting though haha. They are great guns to shoot and very easy to maintain. Thanks again guys.

Since I got my G17 my G19 sits in the safe LOADED of course as does my wife's G26. For me the Glock 9's are so darn easy to shoot with. Your going to have to maybe rent them both and try them out. Your talking to someone who loves to carry a full size firearm.

Well I have the 19, and the 27. I carry the subcompact more often, because for me it's easier to conceal. If it was me. I'd get 26 gen.4 and carry 19 mags as back up. That's if this is going to be mostly CC pistol. If it's going to be CC, HD, range pistol. I'd lean more towards the 19.

I went through the same decision a while back and ended up with the 19. My reasons were:

Faster follow up shots (for me)
More controllable (for me)
Increased capacity
26+extension is basically a 19 grip

To me, shootability and controllability outweighed the small difference in concealability (when adding an extension to the 26).

I carry my 19 concealed daily and have never had an issue.

Addicting, yes. I've owned Sig Sauer pistols for a while now, and love them. But, I can (almost) buy two Glocks for the price of one new Sig, so it is awful easy to justify a new purchase...

I also have a 30 and i am in the same boat trying to decide between the 19 or the 26. Unfortunately in my case over here in PR we cannot rent to try and shoot which one is better.

We are almost all the year in summer time so clothes are light most of the time. With this specifications is the 19 conformable to carry IWB ???

Try both and see what you like the best. They both carry well, but I too went with the 19 for many reasons, but probably most of all flexibility and ease of use. My wife also shoots the 19 and can handle it better than the 26.

I am of the opinion that the Glock 19 gen 4 is the best most flexible handgun on the market for carry and personal protection. It's a heck of a lot of fun to shoot too!

Remember, you can always make the 26 larger by adding an extended mag but you can't make the 19 smaller. With that being said, I own both the 19 and 26 in gen4 and they are both wonderful firearms. I carry my 26 and the 19 is for home protection for my wife when I'm out of town. The 26 performs almost exactly like the 19 at the range with just a tad more recoil but is much easier to carry and every bit as accurate.

My suggestion would be to go with the 26 and add a +2 extension to one of the mags and use this as your extra carry mag.

I own both 19, 26 and have them both set up with the same sights. 19 has a trigger relief cut because of it bruising my middle finger but over all I shoot from 15 yards with both guns the same. I primarily carry the 26 appendix and my 19 at 3:30 position although I can carry appendix style with the 19 it is not the best feeling. If I we're you I would decide what the primary focus of this gun would be and wear you like to carry your guns.

Thanks for all the replies, all the insight definitely helped with my decision. I think I'm going to go with the G19. I already have a subcompact for carry purposes so I think I want to add something a bit more standard to the collection. And I've heard nothing but positives about the 19.

You will love the 19, keep us up to date on all the fun you will have!

I carry my G19 with shorts and a t-shirt all summer. For me it's as easy to conceal as my G27 but has more rounds. Just my .02 worth.

Thanks for the feedback and you are right more capacity. To be honest still struggling with the decision. What really still have me thinking is that i don't think the 19 can be pocket carry right which is useful sometimes??

Am i correct vs the 26 that has a shorter barrel???

Correct. A G19 would be rather large to pocket carry but a G26 would be much easier.

However for me a Ruger LCP is much easier to carry in slacks pockets.

Hope this helps.

I just put my Glock 19 Gen4 in my front pocket with a pocket holster. It fits and is concealed. If however, you are going to majority pocket carry the 26 will win on the that specific issue as it is smaller with less capacity.

Go try both out , you are the only one that can make this decision.
